10 Beautiful Beaches You Need to Visit at Least Once

Not all beaches are created equal. Some are crowded and overhyped. Others stop you in your tracks the moment you see them — the kind of place where you forget to check your phone and just… sit with it.

The world has thousands of coastlines, but a handful of beautiful beaches rise above the rest. Whether you’re chasing turquoise water, dramatic cliffs, or peaceful solitude, this list has something worth adding to your travel plans.

1. Whitehaven Beach — Australia

Tucked inside the Whitsunday Islands in Queensland, Whitehaven Beach stretches over seven kilometers of some of the purest silica sand on the planet. It’s so fine and white it squeaks underfoot. The swirling tidal patterns visible from the Hill Inlet lookout above have become one of Australia’s most photographed natural sights. Access is by boat or seaplane only, which keeps it blissfully uncrowded.

2. Navagio Beach — Greece

Also known as Shipwreck Beach, Navagio sits on the Greek island of Zakynthos, enclosed by towering limestone cliffs and accessible only by boat. The rusted hull of a smuggler’s ship that ran aground in 1980 still rests on the sand — an oddly beautiful centerpiece against the electric blue Ionian Sea. Arrive early in the morning before the tour boats crowd in.

3. Anse Source d’Argent — Seychelles

Few beaches in the world look as otherworldly as Anse Source d’Argent on La Digue Island. Giant granite boulders, smoothed by centuries of waves, frame shallow pools of warm turquoise water. The light here in the late afternoon is extraordinary — photographers and painters have been coming to this stretch of shore for decades.

4. Grace Bay — Turks and Caicos

Consistently ranked among the top beaches in the world, Grace Bay on Providenciales island delivers on every count. The water is a vivid shade of blue-green, the sand is powder-soft, and the reef just offshore makes for excellent snorkeling. It’s a resort destination, so expect amenities and some crowds — but the beach itself is long enough that you can always find a quiet spot.

5. Baia do Sancho — Brazil

Hidden inside a national marine park off the coast of northeastern Brazil, Baia do Sancho on Fernando de Noronha island regularly tops global beach rankings. Getting there requires descending a narrow ladder through a crack in a cliff — which sounds extreme but takes about two minutes. What waits at the bottom is a sheltered cove with warm Atlantic water, sea turtles, and almost no development in sight.

6. Railay Beach — Thailand

Accessible only by longtail boat from Krabi, Railay Beach feels cut off from the rest of the world — in the best possible way. Towering karst cliffs rise on three sides, covered in jungle greenery. The water is clear and calm, and the beach itself is lined with just enough restaurants and hammocks to be comfortable without feeling like a resort. Sunset here is reliably spectacular.

7. Playa de las Catedrales — Spain

On the northern coast of Galicia, Playa de las Catedrales earns its name — Cathedral Beach — from the soaring rock arches and sea caves that frame the shoreline at low tide. It looks more like a natural cathedral than a typical beach. Entry is timed and ticketed during summer to protect the formations, so book your slot in advance.

8. Pink Sands Beach — Bahamas

On Harbour Island in the Bahamas, the sand is genuinely pink — the result of crushed coral and tiny red shells mixed into the shoreline over thousands of years. Pink Sands Beach stretches for about five kilometers along the island’s Atlantic coast, with calm, clear water and a relaxed pace that makes it feel a world away from the busier Bahamian islands.

9. Matira Beach — Bora Bora

Bora Bora is famous for its overwater bungalows and impossibly blue lagoon, but Matira Beach is its real treasure. It’s the island’s only public beach, and it happens to be one of the most beautiful stretches of sand in the South Pacific. Shallow, warm water, soft white sand, and a view of Mount Otemanu in the distance make it the kind of place you plan to visit for an hour and stay for the whole afternoon.

10. Trolltunga Beach — Norway

Most people know Norway for its fjords, not its beaches — but Uttakleiv Beach on the Lofoten Islands challenges every assumption about what a beach can look like. The sand is white, the water is an Arctic shade of blue-green, and dramatic mountain peaks frame the scene on every side. It’s cold, it’s remote, and it’s absolutely jaw-dropping. Visit in summer when the midnight sun keeps the sky lit past midnight.

Before You Go

A few things worth keeping in mind before you pack your bags for any of these destinations:

  • Check seasonal access. Several of these beaches are best visited during specific months. Navagio and Railay, for example, can be rough or inaccessible during storm season.
  • Respect protected areas. Baia do Sancho and Playa de las Catedrales both have visitor limits in place. Follow the rules — they exist to preserve what makes these places special.
  • Go early or late in the day. Crowds at popular beaches peak between 10am and 3pm. An early morning walk on even a famous beach can feel like you have it to yourself.

Final Thoughts

The best beach experiences rarely come from the most famous destinations on the list — they come from the moment you arrive, drop your bag in the sand, and realize you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be.

These ten beautiful beaches each offer something genuinely different. Pick one, start planning, and go find your moment.
